Hi there! My name is Misty, my husband Bruce and I own Misty Westebbe Photography in Franklin TN. I have always loved photography but more than that I love telling each family’s story. I love all the different stages that I get to photograph. When you bring your newborn to me to photograph the tiniest moments, I get to share in your joy! Then as the family grows I get to see the new additions and the changes of each and everyone as they grow. Family shoots through these changes are so much fun! To me, there is no hard stages but only new adventures. When they are graduating and their life is taking such a leap I feel the emotion of change with you, as I capture them and who they are as a young adult. So really, it is not about my photography at all but truly your story, your memories, captured forever!
Our 2.5-acre studio dreamland is set up perfectly for all ages and stages. It’s made to make you feel cozy and at home. The experience will be one to keep in your memory every day as you look at your portraits on your walls. We will help you plan it perfectly, taking on the things that stress you the most before a shoot. Let us guide you through every step of the way!
Growing up in southwest Arkansas I am a country girl at heart. There has always been a camera in my hand! I love all of God's beauty, from amazing scenery to the simplest falling down barn, it is all about finding the beauty in everything. This has now been a full-time business for 15 years and I have to say I love every moment!
I am a mother of two and grandmother of seven. This has truly helped me along the photography journey to know the stages that parents and children are passing through. Each day is a blessing and an opportunity for a beautiful memory, we just have to embrace it as a gift from God! Can’t wait to meet you and your children and even grandchildren in the years to come!
Update: This article was written before we changed our business name to Misty Westebbe Photography in Jan of 2019. New Day was our beginning but we are striving to set our self apart from other studios by that name that are not associated with us.
New Day is more than just the name of Misty Westebbe’s photography business; it is also symbolic of her fresh start in Franklin, Tenn. An Arkansas native and regional representative for Weigh Down, a faith-based weight loss program, Westebbe moved here in 2012 to be closer to the Weigh Down offices and felt led to re-start her photography business.
Misty may have only opened her studio in her home state of Arkansas a decade ago, but she has had a camera in her hand since she was eight years old. With photography roots running deep in her family – all the way back to her great grandmother – she is more than just a portraitist; she strives to be a storyteller. With the help of her husband Bruce, who left corporate America to join Misty at New Day, their 2.5-acre property is an ever-changing and exciting backdrop for their clients of all ages.
Just west of downtown Franklin, their little blue house with a white picket fence sits on an incredible piece of land that serves as the perfect studio, inside and out, for their sessions. With a different background or prop around every corner, from winding trails and a tire-swing to a ’57 Chevy, everywhere you look is uniquely picturesque.
“Every prop on our property has a story,” Misty says, “which makes photographing on our land even more special. Our focus is always on the people, but the props make it exciting and fun for the whole family. When a client comes back there is always something they haven’t seen before!”
Misty and Bruce value building relationships with their clients, more so than just putting portraits on the wall. That’s what makes their work fun, and rewarding.
It’s not just about the perfect pose,” Misty says. “It’s really about capturing the person.”
Misty calls herself a family photographer, and compares the client partnership to choosing a family doctor.
“It doesn’t mean you just do families, it means you’re there for the newborn shoot, the engagement shoot, the maternity shoot, all the way to the high school senior when they’re graduating and eventually starting a family of their own,” she says. “I strive to create the images that show the personalities of the subject at a particular moment in their life.”
Whether they’re volunteering to take headshots of nursing home residents or heading up the photography team at their church, Misty and Bruce are always ready to give back and help someone else. To them, being business owners in Franklin is a special opportunity, which brings a responsibility to contribute to the betterment of the community.
Outside of work they enjoy volunteering at their church, Remnant Fellowship Church, along with antique picking, thrifting and visiting estate sales, always with an eye toward a new piece that will help make their photos unique and memorable.
