I love memories, experiences, history, all wrapped with the senses. We remember things of our past and the senses bring it to life. The photos of days past we see with our eyes, the smells of food, flowers, the scent of perfumes, the feel of a hug from someone you love. All these things bring life to what it was. Experiences live within us forever! I had never been introduced to Lox and Bagels until I met Bruce! Here is his story:
In the late 1960s, my family would drive up to Albany, New York to visit Oma, my father's mother. I was first introduced to Lox and Bagels at Oma's house. I was about 9 years old and was not sure what this was. It was a toasted bagel and cream cheese; that part made sense. I just was not certain why Lox (smoked salmon) made it so much better. (And of course, we can not forget the thin slices of sweet onion!)
Many years later, this rare treat not only takes me back to my grandma's house but is more enjoyable than ever; especially if you spread a little butter on the toasted bagel before loading it with the rest. Some people like capers too.
My wife and I bought a toaster with a bagel setting on it last year. We leave it on the counter to use it more often.
If you have never tried Lox and Bagels or if you have never even heard of this before, you should try it.
Take a look at the pictures below and leave us a comment letting us know what you think of Lox and Bagels or what your childhood food is!!
Happy New Year!
